Emma took the shot, licking her dark red lips once she was done. Bass’s eyes lingered on those luscious lips for a long beat, picturing them doing all kinds of erotic things to his body. Within seconds, he was adjusting his stance to accommodate the bulge of his swelling arousal. He reminded himself that she wasn’t actually at the bachelor party to entertain them, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t fair game for a hookup if she was interested.
Their drinks arrived a couple of minutes later. Emma thanked the server and asked if she could bring them all some water, too.
“I think you guys are gonna need it,” she explained to Bass and Mitch with a wink as the server once again walked off.
“You’re probably right,” Mitch said before lifting his beer. “But for now, here’s to a night out in Vegas with the team’s lucky charm.”
The words caught the attention of a passing rookie, whose eyes widened when he spotted Emma. “Hey, it’s the anthem singer!” His loud exclamation drew the attention of the surrounding players. “You here to party with us?”
“Apparently,” she said.
“That’s what I’m talkin’ about!” another rookie said, exchanging high-fives with his teammate. His eyes moved to Emma’s breasts. “So, do you dance, too?”
She looked confused by the question. Bass, however, was not. He shoved the younger player by the shoulder to get him moving,
“Get outta here, Rook.”
The rookies looked as though they wanted to argue, but Mitch and Bass’s dual glowers had them shuffling away. When Bass looked again at Emma, it was like a lightbulb had gone off. Her mouth briefly formed an “O” before she spoke.
“They thought I was here to strip.” She shrugged it off and took a sip of her drink. “Guess I can’t blame them. It is a bachelor party, after all.”
“Not that kind, apparently,” Mitch said.
“I wonder why? I heard there were going to be strippers at the bachelorette.”
“Get the fuck out,” Bass said. “Ms. Price is having strippers at her party?” He tried to picture the strait-laced, suit-wearing Director of Public Relations sliding a twenty into a stripper’s G-string and just couldn’t do it. “No way.”
“I’m serious,” she said, pausing as the server returned with their waters. “I was looking forward to it, actually. I’ve never seen a real stripper before.”
Bass leaned closer until she met his gaze. “I’d be more than happy to strip for you any time, Dimples. In fact, why don’t we just head to my room right now and I’ll give you the strip tease of your life?”
She gave him a searching look, then turned to Mitch. “Do lines like that actually work for him?”
“You’d be truly shocked,” the Texan intoned.
She shook her head and laughed, clearly not believing him.
Mitch waved his glass in Bass’s direction. “It’s true. The guy has a way of convincing people to do things they never think they’ll do.”
“Mmhmm.” Her eyes met Bass’s over the rim of her glass as she took another sip of her drink.
“You don’t think I can convince you to do anything I want you to?” he asked.
“Nope.”
The single word lit the fire of a challenge within him unlike anything in months. His smile spread.
This night had finally gotten interesting.
“Wanna bet?” he said.
A Heart So Gifted
He’s a brilliant NHL defenseman, a fearless, tattooed rebel, and the unpredictable bad boy of the Atlanta Siege.
Sebastian “Bass” Bell has never met a bet he wouldn’t make. That’s partly why he’s riding out a probationary rap from Siege management. One more screw-up and he’ll be bounced down to the minors or dropped from the team, sending him out of the city he loves and costing him the chance at postseason redemption.
But a guy like Bass can only resist temptation for so long, and his teammates keep offering up sucker bets. Get a terrible tattoo for ten thousand bucks? Sure. Get another piercing for a weekend with a Bugatti? Why not? Marry the team’s anthem singer on a wild weekend in Vegas?
Whoops.
Now if he doesn’t want management finding out his marriage is just an alcohol-induced bet gone wrong, he’ll have to convince his new wife to stick it out for a while and make it look legit. Here’s hoping Lady Luck is on his side.
She’s an impetuous beauty, a gifted singer-songwriter, and The Siege’s lucky charm.
Emma Chastain is ready to do whatever it takes to make it big in the music industry. That’s why she jumped at the chance to become the Atlanta Siege’s dedicated anthem singer. With the team’s stellar P.R. boosting her views and followers, she’s on the way to making all her dreams come true.
So when she’s asked to travel with the team to Vegas, she goes all-in. Sing for a packed arena of rabid hockey fans? Sure. Party with a bunch of sexy-as-sin hockey players? Hell, yeah. Strike a bargain with the charming scoundrel she married on a dare and lie to the entire world?
Whoops.
It starts as a phony romance meant to save their careers. How it all ends will depend on whether they’re willing to up the stakes and risk losing their hearts.
