Happy new year, readers!

The new year looms, and looking back on 2021 evokes mixed feelings in bestselling authors. But we remain optimistic for 2022.

2021 was an up and down year: some promising new developments for me and the family, and some very difficult times, too. I think we’ve all learned, suffered, tried new directions and learned some more. So I hope that the coming year offers more learning and less suffering for us all.

2021 was a mixed bag for me. I managed to launch two new books, but the cancellation of several book festivals took the shine off. In the coming year I hope to have two more releases, one of which will be a standalone, the other the fifth book in the Eva Driscoll series.

I want to wish all my readers a healthy and prosperous new year!

Despite 2021 feeling like it lasted about ten years instead of one, I learned an important lesson about endurance and hope for the future. I had a lot of personal and professional struggles and a mountain of stress and frustration, but I did the hard things and made it through and am finally looking for are to what comes next. For those out there who are as glad to see the end of 2021 as I am, remember that you’ll also make it through whatever this next year brings you and I sincerely hope that the balance will shift to positive changes and exiting new adventures.

The past few years feel like a bit of a dream. We’ve all had to adjust our lives in ways unimaginable. Our very beliefs have been called into question and we’ve loved and lost family and friends. Moving into 2022, I hope that we start seeing a semblance of normalcy again. Writers like myself who stopped writing, picking up pen and paper again. People opening new books. People finding their new normal.

I wish peace for everyone in 2022 and all the best to you.

Writing is all about endings and beginnings, and if that seems backwards, it was by design. This last year marked the end of my Books of the Small Gods series—my longest to date—and the beginning of my next endeavour, the Curse of the Unnamed. February sees the release of the first installment, The Book of Shadow, so perhaps 2022 will get the order right and be a year of beginnings and endings.

All the best to one and all in the new year. I hope all of your beginnings are filled with excitement and your endings the picture of peace.

Here’s to a good 2022, readers!
