I’m sure I’m not alone among authors in saying that the cover design is among the most important—and fun!—parts of the publication process. My very first experience working with a cover designer taught me the value of their expertise.

I gave the designer my ideas for the cover of my first book, Becoming, and she presented me with several variations on what I requested. She also presented me with an idea of her own that was nothing like what I asked… yet was magically everything I wanted. That cover, which I immediately approved with the designer, went on to earn professional acknowledgement by other cover designers, and it drew so much attention from readers that it helped launch my career as a bestselling author.

When it comes to cover design, I look for creative designers who produce polished work that is in line with my genre and industry trends. I rely on them to guide me in terms of style to ensure my covers draw the right kind of attention. It’s also important that we work together on the design to ensure it’s not only eye-catching, but suited to the story.

In the end, the goal is to produce a book cover we can both be proud of!

is a multiple award-winning author of bestselling romance. Known for character-driven stories that inspire the imagination, Raine has signed with multiple award-winning producer Chase Chenowith of Back Fence Productions to bring her popular Daughters of Saraqael trilogy to the big screen. She’s a proud indie author who is living the dream.

Raine is a hopeless romantic with a background in the fields of mental health and wedding planning…two areas that intersect far more than one would think. Her years working with children and young adults with emotional and behavioral challenges inspired her to create protagonists who overcome their own conflicts. When she isn’t writing or glued to e-mail or social networking sites, Raine can usually be found vacationing with her husband and daughter on one of Florida’s beautiful beaches or crossing the border to visit with her Canadian friends and relatives.
